Purpose

The CSI ensures that your private plumbing system has no unprotected cross-connections — points where potable (drinking) water could come into contact with potential contaminants from non-potable sources. This protects the public water supply from backflow contamination.

When a CSI is Required (in most Central Texas water systems)

  • All new construction (before permanent water service is approved)

  • Substantial plumbing modifications or remodels

  • Any time the water provider suspects a potential hazard

  • Change of ownership or occupancy in some jurisdictions

What’s Included in My CSI Service

  • Thorough on-site inspection of all water lines, fixtures, and connections from the meter to the building interior and exterior

  • Identification of any actual or potential cross-connections

  • Check for improper or illegal connections (including lead piping or solder)

  • Verification of air gaps and other protective measures

  • Digital photos and detailed documentation

  • Completion and submission of the official TCEQ Customer Service Inspection Certificate (Form 20699)

  • Clear, easy-to-understand report with any recommended corrections
